Tomb of Annihilation (Session 1)

Our adventure begins with and muscular shaman-like figure. Koragal the Skywatcher - a Goliath is visted with horrible visions of death and of cruel red robed Wizards. In these visions the Wizards seek a powerful artefact in a land of mighty lizards and dead things. Koragal call forth another grey skinned Goliath grey skin with brown braids and frost coloured eyes who says "Skywatcher?". The Skywatcher turns to Thavakean Thunderwatcher Nalakolake and tells him he is chosen to head South on the Great Hunt and to stop these Red Robed Wizards in a land of giant lizards and jungle. Meanwhile in a Temple of Kelemvor a young Half-Elf's thoughts turn fondly to her mentor who's journal she now holds in her hands. Her mentors journal had many anthropological notes from his travels and mentions a desire to journey to Chult, one of the last unexplored areas in Faerun. When the Temple announces it requires a volunteer to investigate some "Death Curse" disrupting resurrections Saralon is one of the first to step forward. Elsewhere in Waterdeep the child of an Aasimar with parchment like skin and black hair tied back in a bun looks over numerous books with eyes that unusually have grey sclera's instead of white. Now is the time thinks Professor Alyssia as she packs her things. I will find this lost library and if that old goat Devlin can find an expedition in Baldurs Gate so can I.
Some time later we find another Aasimar, this one has dark long wavy hair, golden eyes and skin that almost glows. She stares into the sky through a telescope located in the only observatory in Baldurs Gate. Orion turns away and spots the gold monocle missing the lens. Her old friend Professor Theoddore never did get that fixed. A letter he sent months ago seemed to promise they'd find valuable new information that could revolutionise Astrology. Poor Theodore is probably dead which means she may now be the only one with information now on this find. As she considers the idea of traveling there returning to staring at the skies a large voice announces his presence with a shout of "SKYWATCHER! Where giant lizards and jungle?". All soon discover Syndra Silvane, a Wizard, ex-adventurer and merchant of no small repute is sponsoring an expedition to Chult to investigate rumours of a so called "Death Curse". Promosing a reward of gold, a magical artefact from her collection or perhaps something more esoteric If you can discover the source and stop it to the assembled soon to be adventurers, each with their own motivation accept. Syndra explains "The Death Curse has been making returning people back to life more difficult recently in Baldurs Gate, to the South in Amn it's rumoured to be worse and further South in Chult it's now impossible. Thanks to this knowledge and reports from a few other areas Chult is believed to be the epicentre of whatever is happening". Syndra knows about the situation in Chult thanks to a friend she knows there named Wakanga O'tamu (who also happens to be one of the Merchant Princes) who she keeps in contact with. To make the journey, the price of passage on a ship to Chult has been paid in part by both the church of Torm & Kelemvor who have been collaborating with Syndra concerned with this development. The party meet Captain Ortamay Swift & Dark and board her ship the Brazen Pegasus and soon meet the Priest of Torm sent with them named Undril Silver Tusk who is a Half-Orc.
On the journey, after some rough seas a small Psuedodragon flies to the ship emanating fear and help like emotions, they also see some explosions on the horizon. The party follow eventually getting to a small isle that they discover had some Harpies nesting who promptly kill one of the Brazen Pegasus's crew. They defeat the Harpies and soon find a Half-Elf hiding in some ship wreckage. The only survivor, the Half-Elf who introduces herself as Xanadala seems to have blasted some other Harpies presumably depleting herself. After Saralon performs a very lengthy last rights on the dead crew (definitely nothing to do with Saralon constantly getting sea sick) the party return to the ship minus one crew but plus one ship wrecked Half-Elf...
