Tomb of Annihilation (Session 9)

 

The party sit down and think on their options and decide to hire Eku. To make it more affordable though they decide to take Inete up on her request to head to the Aldini Basin and use the 100gp towards the guide hire. Spending the rest of the day making final preparations, stocking up on supplies and enjoying a final civilised bath.

The first few days of travel are fairly easy going with only the occasional Chultan spotted as they approach the River Soshenstar's exit. On the third night they make camp in a spot clearly used by other travellers and spot a scrap of red cloth. Drag marks show a boat was banked here recently but are long gone now. Could this be signs of the Red Wizards?

A heavy mist descends on the fourth day but the party guided by Eku and Thavakean make good progress. They decide to cross the river to the West bank and Undril is nearly swept away! Thavakean stumbles trying to catch her and the two are swept down river about 50 feet or so before making it back onto land. Losing some of her gear Undril is however unharmed and Inete shares some of her things to help.

The party continues and on the sixth day hear some large footsteps. Eku tells the party to be quiet and Alyssia sends forth her faithful Familiar Solus. The magical squirrel scouts ahead and emerges from a bush as a colossal roar announces to everyone what Solus, and Alyssia sees - a huge T-Rex! The beast roars then takes off chasing a smaller dinosaur as everyone swiftly moves on relieved. 


Around mid-day the Thavakean spots movement throwing a rock towards some bushes. A figure emerges with two others and they soon discover these people are from the Emerald Enclave. The party seem to be accepted as no threat so are offered a stay at their camp nearby.

  As Orion wonders how to respond to the guard saying it's Camp Vengeance Undril steps forth, "I am Undril Silvertusk, sent to support the Order of the Gauntlet". With that declaration there is some excited chatter at the gatehouse and some cheers of "reinforcements are here!" as the party are allowed inside - except Crumb who the guards insist must stay outside. As the party enter inside they are greeted by Captain Perne Salhana. She seems glad the party is here and tells them many are sick and wounded. The hopes of nice rest are dashed as they realise the camp is in a sorry state. Commander Niles Breakbone steps out from his Command Tent hearing the talking outside muttering something about the Order letting anyone in these days then starts barking orders for the Captain to get them set to work before returning to his tent. Tomb of Annihilation (Session 18)

  Noting the ice as another mystery of the jungle the party continue on. A heavy mist descends upon the Aldani Basin making visibility drop to only about a dozen feet.  Later in the afternoon as they continue through the Aldani Basin something stirs in the swampy water. Three  Giant Crocodiles come lunging out attacking the party! One of the two remaining Tribal Warriors is torn in half, while Crumb is viciously attacked along with Eku.  The remaining warrior rushed forward plunging his spear into the Crocodile attacking Eku and ducking a tail swipe from the creature. As Thavakean explodes with rage, shadowy tendrils lash out at all the Crocodiles as he brings his axe down on the one attacking his faithful dinosaur.  Meanwhile Inete retreats over to Orion who is blasts away at the one clutching Eku with a Scorching Ray. Tomb of Annihilation (Session 19)

  After the shocked servant finishes screaming and the guards have been calmed down by Thavakean showing off his Dinosaur Race medal they find themselves in Wakanga's company once more. They update Wakanga that they still haven't found the Construct but have a lead. They also find out he could help transport them back to Valindra's Teleportation Circle when they head back out. After a bath Alyssia heads to Wakangas shop to barter. It doesn't go terrifically well but she does make a deal to spend a few days making scrolls to earn some money.  Meanwhile Thavakean finds a way to earn a bit more by heading back to the Colosseum. Taking on 4 panthers they initially knock him down biting into the mighty Goliath. He stands back up though and in a rage of exploding shadow proceeds to cut them down one at a time.
