Tomb of Annihilation (Session 16) Ghouls!

 

The party decide to attack! Curious about the Ghouls feast and with Crumb hungry for a fight they quickly setup an ambush. The party hide in the bushes... well hide is a strong word, it's more like hold a leaf in front of them pretending to be a tree. They switch the Alchemy jug to oil and empty it out over a section in front of Thavakean. A grand plan to burn the ghouls and chop them down flanking from the sides is set up. They then send Solus in it's Owl form to distract some of the Ghouls away. 3 hungrily follow and once gone Thavakean roars and Alyssia starts blasting.


As the party hold ready for the charge Crumb unfortunately gets impatient and launches forward barrelling into the Ghouls. The plan shattered, Thavakean & Alyssia wade forward to help as Orion moves up blasting Ghouls. Alyssia roasts 3 including a large Ghast as Orion sends a searing hot beam through a couple more. Crumb takes the brunt of the attacks as the party starting turning the fight in their favour. Some vicious attacks hit Thavakean but he continues on.
Alyssia however gets into trouble as the claws of Ghast come in paralysing her! Thavakean manages to cut down the Ghoul he was fighting and moves to intercept the Ghast as the party rally round.

It's then they notice the Ghouls that chased after Solus make their return trudging through the mire towards the remains of the pack! 
Seeing the peril, Eku moves up casting Lesser Restoration on Alyssia so she can get back into the fight and the party quickly cut down the Ghast and the retuning Ghouls.

The Ghouls all have Blue Triangles on their heads which Eku seems to recognise. She explains long ago Ras Nsi raised an army of the dead and is the reason some many wander Chult.

Tired they take a short rest and investigate the remains. Mostly mercenary types, the bodies each have gem stones worth a fair amount. They also find some rations and the red robed figure has a map with X on it. Asking Eku she confirms it marks the approximate location of the Heart of Ubtao.

  As Orion wonders how to respond to the guard saying it's Camp Vengeance Undril steps forth, "I am Undril Silvertusk, sent to support the Order of the Gauntlet". With that declaration there is some excited chatter at the gatehouse and some cheers of "reinforcements are here!" as the party are allowed inside - except Crumb who the guards insist must stay outside. As the party enter inside they are greeted by Captain Perne Salhana. She seems glad the party is here and tells them many are sick and wounded. The hopes of nice rest are dashed as they realise the camp is in a sorry state. Commander Niles Breakbone steps out from his Command Tent hearing the talking outside muttering something about the Order letting anyone in these days then starts barking orders for the Captain to get them set to work before returning to his tent. Tomb of Annihilation (Session 18)

  Noting the ice as another mystery of the jungle the party continue on. A heavy mist descends upon the Aldani Basin making visibility drop to only about a dozen feet.  Later in the afternoon as they continue through the Aldani Basin something stirs in the swampy water. Three  Giant Crocodiles come lunging out attacking the party! One of the two remaining Tribal Warriors is torn in half, while Crumb is viciously attacked along with Eku.  The remaining warrior rushed forward plunging his spear into the Crocodile attacking Eku and ducking a tail swipe from the creature. As Thavakean explodes with rage, shadowy tendrils lash out at all the Crocodiles as he brings his axe down on the one attacking his faithful dinosaur.  Meanwhile Inete retreats over to Orion who is blasts away at the one clutching Eku with a Scorching Ray. Tomb of Annihilation (Session 19)

  After the shocked servant finishes screaming and the guards have been calmed down by Thavakean showing off his Dinosaur Race medal they find themselves in Wakanga's company once more. They update Wakanga that they still haven't found the Construct but have a lead. They also find out he could help transport them back to Valindra's Teleportation Circle when they head back out. After a bath Alyssia heads to Wakangas shop to barter. It doesn't go terrifically well but she does make a deal to spend a few days making scrolls to earn some money.  Meanwhile Thavakean finds a way to earn a bit more by heading back to the Colosseum. Taking on 4 panthers they initially knock him down biting into the mighty Goliath. He stands back up though and in a rage of exploding shadow proceeds to cut them down one at a time.
